The Eternal War

The King is dead, and his fragile truce died with him.  Already armies march as the war that ravaged the Pentarchy for over a century renews.  Amidst this turmoil, four people seek elusive dreams.  For Sheridan, the embittered soldier, it's a purpose.  For Garrett, the petty cutpurse, it's revenge.  For Trostig, the royal prince, it's a crown.  And for Greyn, the cynical inspector, it's a killer.  Four lives - four quests - intertwining around the mystery of a murdered king.  But nothing will come easy, for in an age of killing, war and death themselves are being redefined, and a threat unseen for a millennium promises chaos enough to swamp even the Eternal War.

The Conquistador

A father will do anything for his daughter, and as a veteran of Cortés' famous Mexican conquest, Bartolomé Diaz has the resources to make good on that pledge.  Yet when tragedy strikes, he seeks solace in alcohol, a course which costs him everything, including the love of his daughter.  Years later, a storm strands their ship in a Caribbean paradise with lush greens and golden sands.  It is an escape from troubles, or it would be were it not for an old acquaintance.  The Mexican god Quetzalcoatl is preeminent here too, only this time he has a voice, one promising Bartolomé his every Earthly desire: gold, power... and a daughter's forgiveness.  It is a chance to right past wrongs, to atone for painful mistakes... and, of course, a father will do anything for his daughter.  But does that even include making a deal with the devil?

The Iliad

Homer's famous epic, only without the gods as characters.  Instead, this tale of a decade-long war is firmly set in Mycenaean Greece, a time long before the Parthenon, Athenian democracy, or Thermopylae.  In this world, the Mediterranean powers are Egypt and the Hittite Empire, and Agamemnon, King of Mycenae, ruthlessly seeks to unite the warring Greeks under his banner.

To this end, he arranges the marriage of Helena of Aetolia to his brother, King Menelaus of Sparta.  It is an unhappy union, and though her affair with Paris is less than "true love," at least it offers an escape.  Agamemnon is left balancing his brother's demands for vengeance against the risks of war with Troy.   The kings, after all, are notoriously difficult to corral.  Odysseus, the conniving King of Ithaca, has thousands of soldiers, but can he be trusted?  Diomedes, the young King of Argos, is arrogant beyond measure.  Then there's Achilles.  His famed Myrmidons are almost ferocious enough to accept their divisive cruelty.  Meanwhile the aged King Priam of Troy hosts a series of Hittite envoys, desperate to conclude an alliance in time to save his beloved city.

Then there's that whole thing about the horse...
